Mammoth Brands Brings Roll’d to New Zealand

An experienced New Zealand hospitality group is providing the local platform for Roll’d’s first international expansion.

When Mammoth Brands secured the exclusive New Zealand rights to Roll’d in March 2025, it brought together an established Australian Vietnamese fast-casual concept with a New Zealand operator that already understood how to build hospitality brands at scale. The move also marked an important milestone for Roll’d, creating the platform for the brand’s first expansion outside Australia.

Founded in Melbourne in 2012, Roll’d grew from co-founder Bao Hoang’s desire to share the Vietnamese food and family recipes he had grown up with. Before entering New Zealand, the brand had expanded to more than 125 Australian locations, with a menu centred on rice paper rolls, bánh mì, phở, noodle salads and other fresh, flavour-filled Vietnamese favourites.

For Mammoth Brands, Roll’d was a natural addition to a portfolio focused on convenient, fresh and “better for you” food. Co-chief executives Duane Dalton and Chris Henderson first brought Pita Pit to New Zealand, opening the country’s first store in 2007. The network went on to open more than 100 locations within ten years, giving the Mammoth team considerable experience in franchising, property development, restaurant operations and national brand growth.

That experience has also been used to develop new food concepts. During the COVID period, Mammoth created the virtual restaurant brands BOWL’D and EGG’D, both of which became available through more than 60 locations. The group subsequently expanded into school foodservice and developed Tuckr in 2023, providing convenient and nutritious meal options through New Zealand schools. Its wider portfolio now also includes New York Bagels.

Roll’d’s arrival therefore involved more than simply introducing an established Australian name. It combined Roll’d’s food, heritage and proven operating model with Mammoth Brands’ local knowledge, infrastructure and experience growing franchise networks.

The first New Zealand Roll’d restaurant opened at Sylvia Park in September 2025, becoming the brand’s first international location. For New Zealand customers, the partnership introduced a fresh and distinctive new choice within the fast-casual market. For Roll’d, it provided an experienced local platform from which to build a long-term national presence.
