Established in 2015 in Millwater, north of Auckland, BarberShopCo has grown from a single store to 25 locations, making it the fastest-growing men’s grooming company in New Zealand. The founders, Adam Johanson and John Erkkila, identified a gap in the market where traditional barbers were failing to meet modern standards, and female-focused salons were capturing a significant share of men’s grooming services. BarberShopCo was created to provide men with a salon experience in a male-focused and contemporary environment.

By the end of 2016, 10 stores were operational, and by 2023, the company had 25 stores with more planned.
